KENYA ESCAPE

This itinerary takes you from the excitement of game viewing from small excellent safari camps in Amboseli and the Masai Mara to the pleasures of the warm golden sands of the Indian Ocean staying on the romantic island of Lamu just off the Kenya coast

Day 1

Met at your hotel and transferred to the airport for the early morning fight to Amboseli.  Met on arrival and transferred to Tortilis Safari Camp.

Named after the local Tortilis Acacia trees the luxury tented camp is set in a totally unspoilt setting. Sheltered to the south by a grove of "Umbrella Trees" the camp faces out over a magnificent view of Mt Kilimanjaro. Your accommodation is in luxurious tents each with a private semi-circular verandah. Each tent is supplied with plentiful hot water and electricity powered by solar panels.

Day 2 & 3

Game drives each day.  Elephants are synonymous with Amboseli some say there are about 5 per square mile but you can also see giraffe, zebra, buffalo, long-necked gerenuk plus perhaps cheetah and leopard too.

Day 4

Fly back to Nairobi to connect with your flight to the Masai Mara.  Met and transferred to Elephant Pepper Camp.  This is a traditional safari bush camp: the 6 tents are spacious and luxurious with en-suite hot ‘bucket’ showers and a bush ‘short-drop’ toilet – traditions that have changed little since the days of Blixen and Roosevelt. The lighting is hurricane lamps, gas lights and candle-lit dinners.

Day 5 & 6

Game drives each day out onto the Masai Mara Plains.

At the end of the day you can relax, chat beside a warming camp fire, ice clinking in your glass, grass underfoot, stars overhead and the plains stretching before you with no other camp, or vehicle to be seen. There are no noisy generators, just the sounds of the bush, the grunting of the Wildebeest, the barking cough of the Zebra and the occasional moan of Lions – a truly relaxing experience and an escape from the modern world.

Day 7

Met and transferred to your flight to Lamu via Nairobi.  On arrival met and transferred by boat to Manda Bay.

Manda Bay is located on the North-Western tip of Manda Island, one of the many unspoilt, idyllic islands to be found in the romantic Lamu archipelago. The accommodation consists of ten cottages constructed from local materials. Five rooms are set right on the seafront and five are set in-between and slightly behind on higher ground. All the rooms have large ceiling fans and en suite bathrooms.

Day 8 - 11

Time to relax and enjoy the pleasures of being away from it all in the Indian Ocean

For centuries this Manda Island has been a calling point for the Arab dhow traders – a safe haven where time stands still and nature is allowed to take its natural course without the interference of the modern world.

Day 12

Met and transferred to airport for your flight to Nairobi.  On arrival onward travel

The price per person is from £2,634 or US$4,346 excluding international flights including full board, game viewing activities, national park fees, local flights and transfers.
