ROMANCE of KENYA

All the romance of being on safari with that large African sky above you and the sounds of the African bush surrounding you, being “far from the maddening crowd” being in comfort and style, this safari takes you to those small personal but professionally run properties. It concludes with time in the Indian Ocean on the romantic Kenyan island of Lamu staying at Kizingo with a superb beach, great service and in barefoot luxury.

Day 1

Met at your hotel and transferred by road to the Porini Camp in Selenkay Concession adjacent to Amboseli National Park.  The camp is erected in the shade of wide spreading trees and each tent is very comfortable indeed, lighting is by solar power.

Day 2

Early breakfast and then drive to Amboseli National Park for a full morning game viewing. Return to camp and then take an escorted walk with Maasai trackers to get closer to nature and to gain an insight into the culture of the Maasai people. After dinner there will be a night game drive using a spotlight to seek out some of the nocturnal animals such as aardvarks, caracals, serval cats, bat-eared foxes and possibly even the elusive leopard.

Day 3

Return to Nairobi for the afternoon flight to the Masai Mara.  Met and transferred to Kicheche Camp a classic luxury bush camp in the Masai Mara. It is hidden in a grove of wild olive trees in a prolific wildlife area. Game viewing starts right from the camp itself.

Kicheche offers a certain quality of wilderness living, but it is a canvas bush camp. Accommodation is in eleven spacious, fully insect-proof tents. The en-suite private bathrooms have a central dressing area and separate compartments for the shower and toilet. Hot water for showers or washing is available at any time. There are canvas director's chairs on the veranda and hammocks slung between nearby trees to relax in.

Day 4 & 5

Game drives in the Masai Mara the most famous game reserve in Kenya and is one of the few areas left in Africa where animals can be seen in large numbers.

Day 6

Met and transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi. Transfer to the flight to Lamu. Met and transferred to Kizingo by boat.

Kizingo is a “bare foot luxury” beach resort - a wonderful secluded and tranquil escape from the modern world situated at one end of a spectacular 12-kilometre beach. There are six beautifully appointed bandas along the beach, set well apart from each other, with unrivalled sea views.

Day 7 - 10

The swimming is excellent, both in the Indian Ocean and in the calm waters of the channel that separates Lamu from the mainland. For the more energetic there is a big choice of activities including a guided tour of historic Lamu Town, excellent snorkelling, and the chance to swim with dolphins in the winter months November to March.  Green turtles come up to the beach to lay their eggs between late October and June and the eggs hatch 90 days late

Day 11

Depart in time for the scheduled flight to Nairobi for onward travel

Price per person is from US$2,541 or £1,540 excluding international flights including full board throughout, game viewing activities, local flights and transfers.

International flights flying from London return are about £450 per person plus taxes of £85 per person
